16 simple mechanics

The following games are from the book written by Manfred Eigen and Ruthild Winkler. These have very simple rules wich emphasize one or another effect (escalating, balance, etc.) wich can be very useful for RPGs. In fact this book (Das Spiel - Naturgesetze steuern den Zufall) can be seen as a learnbook for RPG designers, because these game simulate mechanisms happening in the real world (chemistry, physics, biology, even art).

Different

It is always interesting to see your point of view on gaming, with these articles being classic examples. Seeing as you have posted it on a RPG design site, maybe you could comment on each as to how they could be applied to a RPG system?

Another group

I ran across this site expressing 300 Mechanics which might be an inspiration. Admittedly its for computer games so far as I can tell, but there are some interesting concepts to be found.

And then we start debating game theory and the prisoner's dilemma. Its what makes mutually assured destruction all worthwhile.

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.

Thanks

To be honest, I don't intend this book to be any special, it's really intended only to be a set of interesting mechanics. I hope if I get them in one place, I could use them wisely or make other mechanics based upon these.
