Advent: Books

Any pdfs that I make for Advent including the core book and supplements will go under this header.

Currently up is the Core Book and a separate PDF for character sheets (though character sheets may be found at the back of the Core Book as well.)

I will add a notice whenever a supplement goes up. If you have any comments about the game, please respond to this page.

New Supplement.

The Dark Arts 15 page supplement is finished. Contains two new races (Vampires) rules for poisons, 6 new Dark Odic Monsters, a really big spell, new items and a couple new speciality resource.

I suppose you don't really need to download it now.

request

Could I convince you to post the core book as a rtf or doc...or email it to me as such. I can't get it to convert properly to doc without screwing up the formatting. But regardless, I've summoned some motivation and am now (although not at this moment) reviewing it.

.Doc

I think the reason for reconversion problems was that it was originally a .ODT

I've put a .doc version up for download.

Thank you again for doing the review.

I finished the Monster section of my first supplement so it should be done soon (hopefully) as I already have in my mind what new items I want and specialty resources.

got it

You can remove the doc if you so want. I got the file downloaded.

Word forever more.

I'll take it down when I next put a pdf up for a supplement. I'll make a note of putting up a .doc version of any pdfs for Advent that I put up.

Just finished all new learnable monster spells!

Next target, other spells that NPCs can teach, or may be granted by ancient scrolls etc.

oops

double clicked post by mistake

ok

So, I reviewed the first 2 pages. This is what I consider copyediting. Let me know if you'd like me to do the whole document and if so, if you would like more or less information. If I do the whole game, I'll probably convert it to a .doc and add comments at the appropriate place.

One number problem: add page numbers.

Table on contents:
try justifing all topics to make it easy to read through also the “-“ isn’t the same for all sections.
Rules Block – block not capitalized
Experience and Leveling – Leveling spelled wrong and not capitalized
Social Hierarchy – Hierachy not capitalized
Techniques and Maneuvers – Maneuvers spelled wrong

Introduction:
Paragraph 1 – don't need a coma after bloody pulp (I think)
Paragraph 1 – RPGs should be capitalized
Paragraph 1 – last line "or" should be "of"
Paragraph 2 – "game" should be "came"
Paragraph 2 – capitalize Pokeman
Paragraph 3 – just reads weird, rephrase
Paragraph 4 – coma missing, should be: "book), some"
Paragraph 5 – “this” is a pdf not a website, add the link and consider uploading to 1km1kt, you’ll get more
people looking for a game to play.

Merci.

I will take all of that into account when I do another version, this will be when I have created many supplements from which I can do a compendium style book from. I would really appreciate it if you kept on going through, at your own leisure. I am appalled by my own poor grammar and spelling but equaly ashamed at my spell checker for not picking up at least the latter (I know, a good workman never blames his tools.)

Paragraph 5: This was originally because I was going to plonk it on my brothers website (http://roberts-mapp.com) but as you can see by the link it isn't really going anywhere. But I forgot to change that on the edit, thanks.

I sent a copy to the 1km1kt submissions people when I put this page up, but have yet to get a response. I didn't recieve notification of failure, so I assume my message went through.

Finally my first supplement, The Dark Arts, is nearly finished, so far it contains two new races (two different vampiric races) rules for making poisons and some poisonous plants and their effects. I'm currently working on the new monsters (around six, I think) and then new spells, one of which (Catharsis) I've had the idea for since the beginning of the games creation, the new weapon and some new specialty resources. Hopefully will be up sunday, depending whether or not someone invites me somewhere on saturday evening.

two speeds

I only have two speeds on and off, so I should be done reviewing early next week. As for 1km1kt, its the same people (person?) who do this site. It might take a few days, if you don't hear anything within about 10 days, I'd email and ask.

And questions: Do you sleep? Have you found some creativity crack or something? I think at the moment you are posting more than the rest of us combined. Not that you should stop, just I'm impressed at your drive.

Quantity not quality.

Well the first point I'd like to make is the stuff that most of the rest of you put up seem to be of higher quality than mine, so that might have something to do with it.

As for sleep, I've just completed a sleep diary for Psychology and apparently I've averaged 4 hours a night this week. So the answer is, yes I sleep but probably no where near enough.

The site also provides me with another reason to postpone any real work. Right now I should be writing up a Theatre Studies portfolio for tommorrow morning, but here I am!

Most of my spewings of creativity come from the fact that I had about four years before this site to come up with lots of things, but no where to properly express it. I have several folders of half arsed notes on lots of mechanics and ideas for settings (not ever combined though!) So when I want inspiration or get stuck on a mechanic I can flick through the grubby scribblings until I stumble upon a previous idea that I can graft into a game.

Sadly I think I'm going to have to postpone the first Advent supplement. As mentioned before, I've got Theatre Studies stuff to do (next week basically covers 60% of my mark) and saturday evening/night I will be playing DnD with some friends and I can't turn them down because I've fallen in love with my new Gnome character.

Also it takes a lot of energy for me to push on with one idea. Already I have thought of my next project and I'm willing myself to finish Viral (though that is going to be relatively small in comparison to Advent) before I start on Deus...

ugh...

Potentially I will be posting this twice, once not logged in. But I'm finished with the game, would you like it by post or by email?

huzzah commentery!

Please send it to be by email. You might as well send it to the deus one.

I'll start working on that (slowly) and will try having a revised edition done by the end of the summer.
