Assasins Guild

Something a group of us used to play at school (I was the Commisioner.) It is kind of like LARP, in that we added score bonuses for spectacularly conniving, sneaky or risky kills. If you take this to your own school, office place or group of friends, please remind them that it is only a game, not to be taken seriously and no harm should be done to any players.

Oh and I take no responsibility if this goes badly.

Wasn't this a Steve Jackson game?

Didn't Steve Jackson Games put out a game called 'Assassin' or some similar title?

Peace, Errin : )

never knew if he has.

I'm a big fan of SJ games (got four munchkin sets, Frag and Illuminati) if he's done a game like thisI'd be very pleased, because it's likely to be a damn sight better than the one I've pu up here. Will have to have a gander. Sorry it's not a PDF, I put it up at school.

I know I've got and even bigger rule book somewhere which details thedifferent types of kill (melee, ranged, poison and bomb) as well as point bonuses and rules for special events (such as Kill the VIP.) I'll try and find this, but it's probably been deleted by the school system (the head teacher didn't seem to like this idea, even though I was adamant that it was just like LARP. Perhaps that was my fault for putting posters up...)

No

I think steve made a adaptions, but not teh game itself

That's what I thought

I had thought it had been around seperately, then Steve Jackson Games made a version of it. In fact, I found an official sjgames webpage for it: Steve Jackson's Killer

Enjoy!

Also...

A bad movie based on these types of games was made in the late 70's or early 80's. It involved a bunch of college students playing an "Assassination" type game with dart guns, then one of them cracks and starts using real guns. I don't recall the title of the movie, but it was pretty cheesy and lame. Anybody seen that one and know what it's called? And, no, it's not the lame 'Mazes & Monsters' starring Tom Hanks.

TAG

The obvious one that springs to mind is The Assassination Game starring Linda Hamilton ... Which probably makes it very cheesy. And no, I haven't seen it.

In fact, at university, I used to run the Killer Klub. We had a few close calls, even though we played entirely in the campus grounds. No nerf for us (it didn't exist), we used motorised water pistols instead. Most of our games tended to be of the "circle killer" variety, although we did have plans for more ambitious events before we were stopped.

Best I can do these days is games of Zen Killer.

You are correct, sir!

Yep, it was most definitely 'TAG'. I forgot Linda Hamilton was in it. That movie might be worth a laugh to watch, that is, if you can find it!

I should have known you'd know the answer, what with the wide breadth of knowledge you have. You know, John, I'd be hesitant to ever get into a trivia match with you... LOL

Thanks for the answer. I would never have guessed it myself, but it is most definitely TAG that I had seen before.

Hehe!

I always wanted to start a game of this up. but its hard to get players for it. and for some reason i never get myspace messeges.

This game is fuuuun if you do it right.

It's all about the mood.

When I was running this game I found I had to make some pretty big adaptions. First of all was the setting up of the messaging system. We set up a forum but that got blocked by school. It was difficult to give out missions as I had to find people and eventually it petered out.

I think it's a game that would run well at university level where admin is less domineering.

It is a game where you need to be carefull about players. People being too serious can lead to more than bruised egos and I would never want anyone to actually be hurt.

Oh I need to add a rule at some point. A poison only works if the person visibly notices the change in flavour and stops eating/drinking. If they manage not to gag, scrunch up face or complain and can chew the whole poison down, then their fortitude has one and the poison was too weak!

WIU Hit Men

A similar game was held on my campus a few years ago. Due to exams, I didn't take part, but I recall a few details.

Fruit (notably bananas) was to be used instead of anything that looked like a weapon. No hits were to take place in class. I think the dining halls we off limits too. While I don't remember as to if one could add stuff to another's food, it was allowable to used double sided tape as "contact poison"

Furthermore, it was more of a free-for all game rather than assigned contracts. Generally the kill was by handshake or tapping on the back.

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.

Tis a world wide phenomena

I realise it was something that's gone on for ages. I just wanted to put up some formal and easily followable rules for it.

It is such a shame that SJGame's Killer is no longer in print, though thanks for pointing it out ErrinF
