Apocalypta Card Game (Overview)

Welcome to the Apocalypta Card Game. This is a starter book containing basic rules for the card game, as well as two fully playable decks (Bold Testament and New Scum factions.) As well as a mini campaign for players using these two decks and variable map tiles for city battles.

Apocalypta is a card game/war game where players use their squad to capture resources, strategic locations and the like. Each Squad member has a card representative of themselves and the deck is made up of your squad's various special abilities and equipment.

Players doing well in the campaign will be able to increase their deck size, as well as include any new equipment that their resources allow.

Apocalypta is a game for two or more players (maximum recommended 6). Although this book only comes with a campaign built for two players, it should be easily adaptable to accomate more.

Each player's deck will consist mainly of characters from their faction, with the ability to have a minor amount of mercenary units. There are six factions to choose from, all battling equally hard in the New World.

Bold Testament: These men and women forsaw the Apocalypse through consulting their faith. Building bunkers and stocking up on resources, the Bold Testament saved all those that they could afford to. Now after the dust has settled, they have emerged from the darkness of their vaults and now wish to lead the remains of humanity into a new era of faith and glory.

New Scum: A group of bikers who the Bold Testament had tried to convince to become holy and join the Testament decided to leave the Testament to bible bashing dust and chose to pave their own way into the future. Conducting a raid on a scientific facility belonging to the Fellowship they used it's vaults for protection. The facility was researching genetic modification and when the bikers emerged, they had mutated themselves into part man part beast monstrosities, the New Scum.

Fellowship of Minds: The Fellowship of Minds had been tracking the course of the comet for many years before it hit earth. Choosing not to warn the scientific community who scorned their radical ideas and experiments, they constructed vaults across America in which they sealed themselves before fire rained down from the sky. Breaking the seals on their titanium doors, the members of the Fellowship believe that the post apocalypse world is one in which their experiments can be put to the test. The new age of science has begun, and it shall lead humanity into the future.

The Morning Chorus: Unlike the Bold Testament, the Morning Chorus were not warned of the coming Apocalypse and they believe it a feeble attempt by God to wipe them from the earth. When the skies turned red the Chorus prayed to the Morning Star that the fire spare them. Scarred and burnt the Chorus weathered the apocalypse as it happened. Now with grim determination they wish to instate their power from the chaos and shine the true light of Lucifer upon the land.

UNRA: The United National Rifle Association was well prepared for the Apocalypse. Working with the army it's members fled to nuclear shelters as the flames hit the ground. Might makes right to the UNRA and they believe that it is their mission to reinstate the Government and order in the world. Theirs is an ideal of a Global Nation, all American world. The apocalypse has wiped the system from the face of the earth and the UNRA has the power to make a new one.

The Society: Money could buy you anything. A large deal of money informed members of the Society that the Apocalypse was coming. So they came prepared. A group of largely excentric millionaires who border on the insane as practioners of Necromancy have come to the New World armed to the death with grenades, guns and skulls. The Society's main goal is to rid the earth of human influence and then raise a undead slave race, who will provide for the Society for the rest of eternity.

Sounds good!

I had an idea for an RPG for the PS2 like this a while back... I'll totally help out with mechanical workouts, beta tests, etc. I completely support your project!

The different factions sound so fun. Heh heh...

Sounds hard.

I had the system roughly worked out. Ideas for card, abilities and factions. All sorted. Problem is getting images for the cards. Once I found an image that fits a card, getting permission for it was impossible. If I could find someone who did good work, but not excellent work, that I could work out some sort of commission work I would. I would gladly pay to see any of my projects get of the ground.

Don't steal... The Government hates competition.

Why "Mob" is on the bench

this is why my card game currently has not seen day: No images or card design.

i tried and tried for many nights but i couldint make a good design. which is why i am in computer graphics this year.

Show us more!

I will be a hundred percent honest - I love the idea of you designing your own cards and game. This gives you unlimited creative potential if you have the time and patience to pull it off, so kudos to you!
If you need help with anything, let us know! While I might not be the best artist, I love to draw and then scan my images to the computer. I can usually make them look pretty decent after giving them touchups.

Good luck!

All in the detail.

I've noticed that some people do pictures really big, keeping everything in proportion, so that the details are really easy to do. Then they scan the image in and shrink it. Whereas before you had a big picture with little detail, you've got a small picture with lots.

The way I'm going to do deck construction will mean that you can't have that many cards to begin with (only 15 + 4 squad members) and over the campaign I hope to raise that to 30 cards + 6 squad members. So for each team I'll probably have to design around 30 cards (as some cards will be duplicates) for a short campaign.

Will put up the rules soon, they'll only take up a page, as this is suppossed to be a fairly simple card game, augmented by a board.

If your bored for drawing I could always work on a list of proposed cards and if you like the idea of any of them you could design them? I don't see why I shouldn't allow people to make their own, so long as they are vetoed by me for game balance.

The most important parts of any game are story and characters. Master these and a good game is on its way.

Sounds interesting

Can't wait to see some of the cards/ideas. If there's anything you might need/want help with, let me know.

My internet provider is holding my sig hostage. Send help.

Art as my down fall.

I've got a copy of Corel Draw 12 so if I can get it to work basic card design will be up soon (for squad, equipment and powers.) The problem is, Corel Draw doesn't like to work. It complains that only the system admin can use it, but wait, I am the system admin...

If I do see it working I'll get some cards up as soon as possible, though they'll be rough drafts as I can't get images yet. I'll have to know what I want before I start scouring the internet or ask arty friends to do stuff (with the payment of coffee and cake of course!)

As can be seen by the above intro I'm going to focus on Bold Testatment and New Scum first. BT units will be high power (ability usage) but low ranged attack, in melee they'll fair alright but not excellently. New Scum units will have low power (little ability usage) but are going to be fast and strong (high melee) as well as having enough Hits to be able to get into melee combat without being gunned down.

At the moment I'm thinking each faction will have different classes within it. So a BT Missionary Level 2 Preacher Level 1 could use Level 1 & 2 missionary powers and level 1 preacher powers. I'll probably give each class 5 levels with 3-5 powers for each level (some classes will have less powers)

The most important parts of any game are story and characters. Master these and a good game is on its way.
