Miracles and powers (2.0)
This page has been changed and redone from the published version for purposes of making it less sucky.
MIRACLE USE
Upon being granted to a imbued, miracles are noted on the char sheet. Low level miracles can be used on the spot . mid levels require a turn to prep and use; while high levels need two whole combat turns to power up. A imbued can cast up to 100 points of miracle a within a period. each point requires 20 game minutes to regain.
GRADE
miracle grade is defined by how many points it is. low grade is 20, medium is 30, and high is 45. max points that can be plugged into a miracle is 50. This is for use with the DMs miracle creation chart to create miracles for use by the players. and also so miracles arent abused.
EXAMPLE
Jerry the DM decides that Ace needs help in dealing with a zombie. Quickly he puts together a miracle for him and god assigns it to ace. Ace's eyes glow as he uses the low grade miracle that jerry named "Silver Gleam". Aces knife glows silver and he decapitates the zombie with the holy silver. the blade turns back to normal.
(I am going to put in a creation chart for DMs to manufacture their own miracles)
Honestly...
You're dealing with a game about controlling ANGELS and DEMONS, coming up with a list of powers and abilities that they can do will not really upset those who are playing the game anyway. You're always going to have the religious conflict when dealing in these sorts of games. Your best bet is to look at is from an athiest view.
Besides, it doesn't have to be a diffinitive list, just a general point outline of "these abilities do this" and "those abilities do that". Besides, you let people creat their own abilities and some Imp creature is going to have Omnipotence: 20 or something and be able to use everyone as a washcloth.
Just look at it from an angle that's not your own and you'll figure out something.
My internet provider is holding my sig hostage. Send help.
Give it a go!
I have seen the list you produced for Character Creation, it was done quite well. I think you should have a crack at it. Don't look at other games for inspiration, just sit back and think "If I were a Demon or an Angel in the real world, what kind of neat stuff could I do?". Just flow with whatever comes.
By the way, good to see more CBP stuff :)
Good and Evil is a point of view...
I'm not much of a fantasy person, but that doesn't mean I haven't tried to come up with ideas for magic systems, most of which have ended up a bit over complicated. However, one idea I'll pass on is the thought that an ability is neutral, until you pump some sort of power into it.
You could have the power "health". Pump angelic energy into it, and it heals the person, pump demonic energy into it, and it rips them apart on the cellular level. Or perhaps, it heals you both ways, but is "visually" different - angelic = warm glow and no scars, demonic = metal plates and scars appear.
If everyone has a balance of the +/- sides, then there is temptation of the good guys, and demons who can be redeemed (or at least act nice if it suits them) From a pure design point, you only need to think up half as many spells, because each has two uses. Also allows a who duality theme.
White Wolf's Orpheus had a system where you could A) vary the effect by the amount of power you put in and b)whether you used vitality or spite. I also like the system used in Adventure over on 1km1kt - the modify a spell in preset ways appeals to me. Not that you should copy anyone, but thats my general preference in systems.
There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.
Just to build on that excellent suggestion . . .
Chainsaw Aardvarks idea is great! I just thought to add that maybe a player/Angels/Demons available power is gained through good/bad deeds. Sure they would have a "base" amount, but if a player does a good deed (such as saving someone from said demons), they gain a bonus amount of positive energy.
Sorry I cannot be more specific, but hope it gives you somthing extra to roll with :)
