Pet demons/angels

This is a layout i have been playing with for "pet" creation. Every creature has an alignment to a virtue/sin, which their powers are based off. Then they have a set of special powers, making every demon/angel a bit different. then there is their weapon and armor type (if any). After slight testing i will determine any more specifics. since right now i can afford a bit of testing rather than slapping everything together and hoping for the best like in the past. (A few people have told me how much they like my BR rpg, which makes me feel like working on my written works much more).

Name:
Sin/Virtue:
Weapon:
Armor:
Powers:
Backstory:

This system will change alot, because this seems a bit barebones.

NOTE: Most types of angels/demons can be both genders unless specificly noted by name.

an example i have been playing with:

Name: Succubus
Sin:Lust
Weapon:Whip
Armor:Leather Harness
Charm: roll 2 die at the start of combat, double sixes takes out all enemy male characters from combat.
Backstory: she spawn of lilith, a jewish demon that preyed on small children. Succubi prey on men, luring them into bed and draining their life energy from sex.

The only thing they think and fight for is sex. and would rather screw what they defeat then kill it. Talking with one would probably lead (like everything else with a succubus does)to sex.

Name: Unicorn
Sin/Virtue: Kindness
Weapon: Inherent Horn
Armor: None
Powers: None
Backstory: The Unicorns are a species of horse with a large horn. Generally thought of as "girly", they are in reality dangerous animals, ridable and hostile to any that mock them. Much faster than any normal horse, but unfortunately just as mortal.

Players can ride on top of the Unicorn and melee attacks get a +1 bonus with ranged suffers -1 when moving. Being a sturdy animal the unicorn takes alot to get killed. and can only be brought down easily via the head. But since it likes to keep moving it takes alot to make it stand still.

Name: Soul Cleric
Sin/Virtue: Charity
Weapon: None
Armor: Robes
Powers: Possesses healing power, to aid their lords.
Backstory: Deseased doctors that helped many people were usually granted a clean slate, and allowed into heaven. When the portals opened, they were allowed to heal and help once more, granted healing powers by Raphael, the healing angel.

The Cleric will stand in behind of its master and benifit it with spells. Clerics prefer to use healing and blessing magic.

Name: Divine Judge
Sin/Virtue: Diligence
Weapon: Holy Blade
Armor: Plate armor
Powers: Able to detect individual sins much more clearly, and possesses spells that do extra damage against demons.
Backstory: Trained by Loki, the Judges were sent by the metatron to defend the churches.

While being slow in their heavy armor judges can easily run and fight with massive force. cleaving and killing with their blessed blade. Their armor will deter bullets slightly. And it takes a 6 to break through their armor with blunt weapons.

Name: Soul Seeker
Sin/Virtue: Wrath
Weapon: Scythe
Armor: Dark Robes
Powers:When angered, they become able to become mist, seemingly teleporting to opponents.
Backstory: The seeker order are a cult of demons directly placed under the command of Wrath. They take the forms of old men in black robes, wielding scythes of their own. a few of them even see their master perform his duties. making them vile, easily angered monsters. Unlike wrath, they lack the powers of death he has, but their scythes are no less deadly.

Seekers have nearly no form of armor. They rely on tricks with their scythe for protection and combat. Despite how they look they are very acrobatic fighters. and will happily jump through glass and onto rooftops to suprise their enemies.

Name: Bile Demon
Sin/Virtue: Gluttony
Weapon: None
Armor: None
Powers: Their "bottom burps" can peel paint off sportscars. and their stomach acid can finish the job.
Backstory: When the fast food industry was first started, many american youth decided never to cook again. The results of all this caused horrible mis-shaped beings to walk in hell. their souls were purged and their pure sin was poured into Bile Demons. They are masses of fat with legs, completely atrophied under the weight of their stomachs.

Slow and dangerous. the Bile Demon will stand its ground and sweep its hands and horns about in combat.

Name: Incubus
Sin/Virtue: Lust
Weapon: Mace
Armor: Harness
Powers: Female opponents can be charmed by him.
Backstory: Brothers of the twisted succubus, these men of hell find only one pleasure, in womans beds. Like their sisters, they drain life-force from who they sleep with, but also attempting to impregnate them with demons.

Much like a succubus in its ways. the main purpose of a incubus is to bang girls. In combat it will try to knock enemies weapons away with its mace, then either knock them out if male or take advantage if female.

Name: Messenger
Sin/Virtue: Diligence
Weapon: None
Armor: Robes
Powers: Is in almost constant contact with up above.
Backstory: Thou not mighty warriors, messengers act as secondary metatrons. Unfortunatly, not linked to god himself, Messengers do bring messeges of the dead to people. Receiving a messege from a messenger is usually good news. They exist because god did not want many angels roaming the mortal plane to send messeges to mortals left behind.

When a messenger does fight, it will usually run and hide. if with a master, then it will try to attract attention. or otherwise harrass its foes.

Name: Monk
Sin/Virtue: Chastity
Weapon: None
Armor: Robes
Powers: Un-able to be swayed by any curses. Possesses low strength healing and holy spells.
Backstory: The clergy being pure of soul were admitted into heaven. They spent their days up above in near silence and pure joy. when the portals were ripped, they were sent down to close them back up. One monk is not enough however. but a monk with great training could possibly close one himself.

Using light holy spells in combat, they will blind and banish demons, protecting less guarded allies.

Name: School Sister
Sin/Virtue: Forgivness
Weapon: Ruler
Armor: Robes
Powers: Holy spells. Ablity to teach certain skills.
Backstory: When the portals were ripped, the schools were forced to close. Passed away teachers swarmed through the gates in order to bring knowlage to the children of earth. True evidence that god forgives.

Much like a monk, the school sister uses holy spells that banish and blind. when with a master and not during combat, the sister can try to train its master in skills and give it tips for combat.

Name: Blue guard
Sin/Virtue: Kindness
Weapon: Blessed revolver
Armor: Clothing
Powers: None, but will protect his/her charge to no end
Backstory: Not all police were corrupt monsters. Few of them were allowed. This coven of good police waited for the exact moment. When the portals ripped, they requested to be sent down in order to protect who they can.

Guards will duck and weave to cover, popping out and giving a few good shots. Even though they lack melee weapons, they are all very adept in close combat.

Name: Pit Sheild
Sin/Virtue: Sloth
Weapon: Gigantic sheild
Armor: Heavy infernal plate
Powers: Heavily armored behemoth
Backstory: With the massive amount of americans contributing to sloth. they were poured into these monstrositys. Slow creatures that are near impossible to kill. Luckily they rarely catch their prey, serving more as meat sheilds than killers.

Name: The Blind
Sin/Virtue:Wrath
Weapon: Bladed weapon
Armor: Torn clothing
Powers: Can only be killed through its eyes
Backstory: The blind are the masses of bloody murderers that have walked the earth, lumped into several demons. These monsters gaze at the world with blood red eyes and kill for enjoyment and revenge. Destroying their eyes kills them.

Blind are totally impervious to any attack except those that affect their eyes. All conversation with them leads to maniacal rants of death.

Name: Patriot
Sin/Virtue: Temperence
Weapon: Flag
Armor: Clothing
Powers: Bystanders will rally to the patriots flag, their joined prayer allows the patriot mass power he/she can channel
Backstory: There have always been great leaders that sway the people to their side with honerable means. the few that are actually not corrupt were highly rewarded by heaven. Their flag they carry stands as a banner of hope.

Brilliant strategists. All nearby bystanders and angels alike will aide the Patriot. Characters with weapons will form a like behind the patriot and march along. This uniformity gives a +1 to all ranged attacks that are from the gun line

Name: Prom Queen
Sin/Virtue: Vanity
Weapon: Psycho Knife
Armor: Dress
Powers: Can appear to be mortal to creatures with second sight.
Backstory: Not everybody can take losing. this being represents the spirits of girls that took up the knife rather than lose the beauty pagent.

Its impossible to talk to them, all they speak is insanity. It may be possible to ward one off with a compliment of their looks, this will throw them off long enough to run.

Name: Boyfreind Seeker
Sin/Virtue: Envy
Weapon: Knife
Armor: Clothing
Powers: Females are "lit up" to her.
Backstory: Many girls can admit anger and jealousy. The ones that don't can be a problem. Sometimes, after you get a boyfreind, you will find out that somebody else with a less sane mind did too...

The seeker will always have a target. She tends to go after targets that have a love interest and previously knew the seeker herself (or rather, the souls that make up the seeker)

Name: Riser
Sin/Virtue: Humility
Weapon: None
Armor: Clothing
Powers: Might get up from being knocked out after being knocked out. Very kind as well.
Backstory: Some people have the worst luck, but in the end remained good people. Risers are souls that kept a good outlook no matter what.

Very kind and gentle people. when knocked out roll a die, on a 5 or 6 they will jump back up. When their master is in danger they may rise as well.

Name: Woman of the call
Sin/Virtue: Diligence
Weapon: Blessed Musket
Armor: Old Military Uniform
Powers: Skilled in combat.
Backstory: Way back when, when the british wanted to remain in control, the men of the colonies fought back. However, some of the women that were sexistly not allowed to fight fought anyway by donning the uniform and clever use of tape.

Name: Black Paladins
Sin/Virtue: Greed
Weapon: Claymore
Armor: Dark Plate Armor
Powers: Skilled in melee combat, and possess low level curses
Backstory: Black knights are the result of the crusades for gold and fame and serving the lord. Sucks to be them when the reaper tossed them into hell.

Name: Hitman
Sin/Virtue: Greed
Weapon: Silenced Glock
Armor: Clothing w/Bulletproof vest
Powers: Their mark is "lit up" to them
Backstory: The crime days resulted in many gangsters going to hell. they were poured into the molds of hitmen, and sent by hell to kill targets.

Hitmen also work for Greed, and will probably appear where he does. Like Greed, they mainly speak with a outrageous Russian accent.

Name: Sister of Heaven
Sin/Virtue: Forgivness
Weapon: None
Armor: Nuns Robes
Powers: Able to cast low level holy spells.
Backstory: Unlike preists, Most nuns wer actually granted heaven. Mainly because they didn't touch little boys. However, Sisters of heaven are seriously religious maximus.

Soldier Spawn
Wrath
Weapon: M16
Armor: Tattered clothing
Powers: May sometimes throw a grenade
Backstory: Reanimated bodies of the dead iraq war soldiers. much more like wights then zombies, mainly just bones and nasty, decomposed skin. (UNABLE TO BE A FAMILIAR)

Soldier Spawn are like zombies, except they look like nasty, meaty skeletons. they travel in numbers and co-ordinate their attacks. Unlike zombies they are intelligent, and shout our warlike orders.

BOSSES
These are my own versions of the 7 sins that have appeared so far. Winged entirely. Your sins may vary.

Wrath
Sin
Example of Him: In testing, he talked fairly psychotic and used his scythe to block bullets. "Immmm baaaaacccckkkk AND GUESS WHOS GONNA DIE!?". Makes a great appearence in a hamburger joint fight, only to be blasted by a Blue Guard.

Greed
Sin
Example: Wears a suit along with his hitmen. Very heavy russian accent. Hunts after Cat and Alicia to the very end until scooter takes out his car by accident and ends up being a Evil Player. Also participates in the great home depot shootout.

Metatron
High level messenger
Example: odds are if there are good players then there is him. He is the voice of god. as gods voice shatters skulls (Those who watched dogma know this).

Angels?

I need a bit of help. i don't really know alot about angels. so far i have been winging it, finding names and putting things together. Im trying to think of as many "heavenly" things i can, but its tough.

Demons are easier because there is just so much material to use. everybody seems to have some fancy idea of a demon.

Other cultures gods as angels?

If the truth about the spiritual side of the universe is heaven and hell, maybe the gods and famous figures of other religions and cultures were in fact angels interpreted in a different way? The roman pantheon were angels, with Zeus representing God. You can take this approach with nearly any culture, giving you a wealth of themes for each angel by the conclusion of your venture.

Hope this helps :)

Possible source

Children of Fire is an RPG where the characters are angels who exist in the mortal world by posing others. Simple plagiarism cannot be condoned, of course, but it might help point you in the right direction.

Speaking of paths, I'm not so sure you should include the actual leaders of the factions in game, nor really assign them a specified pantheon. Good and Evil is a powerful story, religion a great motivator. Calling one right versus wrong interpretations, or implying one is better than the other...

Aliens trying to play off the old superstitions of Man, or strange forces manifesting according to the collective unconscious perhaps. (This latter also allows things not necessarily demon//angel to manifest - malignant inanimate objects and Lovecraftian horrors come to mind.)

I'm not normal against religion in games, but having celestial beings as your lackeys to beat up others does seem to be in poor faith. (and yet I still make puns. go figure.)

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.

Theres where the s**t starts getting flung

Well heres my point. If you really think about it, thats all religion has done over the years: cause fights and wars.

religion started america by driving away the pilgrims and various other factions

religion started the crusades, where knights killing many just for their "one true god".

Right now, in Iraq, people blow themselves up daily to get to Allah.

Portraying demons and angels killing each other really doesint seem that nonreligious to me.

Because really. Who hear knows that St.Patrick's day celebrates ol pat getting rid of the snakes of Ireland?

Fun Fact: "The Snakes Of Ireland" is a metaphor for the pagans. Saint pat drove out pagans. In gods name.

None of this was meant to be a flame or angry response. I just get a little amazed that not many people have figured out that religion is far from bloodless.

Decide your theme - it helps :)

Neat idea, the only thing I would decide right from the get go is the underlying theme for the game. Is it kiddy and over the top? Or is it serious, with the pet Demons/Angels being the players only chance at saving the world. Can they be killed, or are they knocked out? Finally, are they sentient intelligent beings or run around saying their own name repeatedly? Sounds obvious, but when coming up with power and weapon idea's it will help narrow your focus as to what kind of effects you want.
Also, consider not only the typical Christian models of Demons/Angels, but what about Viking, Roman or even African and Asian idea's for some diversity.

Hope that helps, thanks!

Definatly serious

Definatly not kiddy. this game is serious, and these famliars are serious. with some TLC they can seriously wreck shit if you are so inclined to order them to. They are sentient, powerfull, and alive. And i am definatly trying to incorperate as many types of demons/angels as possible. But a DM that feels like it may include his own if he wants

google says...try some of these
