Another Aardvark Antry (entry - I cann spel somtims!)

Ok, its Thursday again, and I'm inclined to post more of my thoughts.

First of all, I'm keeping this once a week, since I don't want to use up too much of this place for personal rants. Furthermore, there is a reason I don't have a more official blog, nor do I turn to blogs or even network news for information. I like newspapers and a chance to relax and look at things critically, rather than up to the minute you've got 60 seconds to make a judgment. It seems a bit more trustworthy, since their deadlines are ever so slightly less stringent than other sources, so they have more time to check.

Secondly, I should point out that I seem to have a slightly different take on the use of books and blogs on this site than what is developing. I thought the blogs were just supposed to be for thoughts, or asking specific questions. If you really wanted something to develop more - put your general ideas/questions of the first page, and then create individual pages for what specifics you want commented on.

To use errinF's Ogre Magi as an example, the intro-page would be "Lets make an RPG, based on Ogres, these are my initial thoughts..." and then each category up for discussion (magic, system, monsters...) would be a separate page, so that no-one needs to dig through an increasingly long and disjointed thread to find a specific point.

Ogre Magi

Even if that’s not the case, that is how I would like my books to be treated. If you have any zombie stories, or world war two ideas, please, feel free to add them.

Categories and Clutter: The Games

One thing I have noticed and tried to avoid when putting my Legendary Gems and MACE books together is not putting any categories on any extra pages. I have noticed some doing it, but what happens is when searching by category, instead of just the starting page being shown, EVERY page shows. I want people's feedback, but I do not want to clutter the categories page with every entry I make.
I will have to also admit, I did percieve the use of the book and blog slightly differently, but I would have to agree with your idea's. This site is about game discussion, not just free space for gaming material.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Fetch my walker sonny

Ah, and old post from 11/02/06 - probably from one of the first dozen to appear on this site. Are you trying to read every entry or go through the archives? After this one, I decided to nix any sort of personal entries. Admittedly, I still mark the categories on sub pages. Although it is a bit a clutter, I think it helps in finding elements. A new blog entry asking this of the whole community might be a good idea.

(Always Avoid Alliteration)

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.

...

Apparently Aardvarks Always Access Avoidable Alliteration Although Assuredly Anyone Awake Asks Aardvark...why break your own rule?

And no I don't want challenge you to an allitteration battle. I surrender.

Dramatize discourse diligently - don't drink and deride...

Its a rule from the list of "How to Write Gooder"

  • Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake

  • Go around the barn to avoid colloquialisms.
  • Propositions are not words to end sentences with.
  • Who needs rhetorical questions?
  • One word sentences? Eliminate.
  • The rest can be found Here though I think the original version of the list was started by Dave Barry.

The wonders of collaborative sites

One has to expect unexpected uses when setting up a collaborative site. I'm confident that all that about you rant on will stabilize with time and frequent construcive feedback.

Ah. One think that would help to sort books out would be the possibility to change a book's parent. In that way we could gather Bandits and Barbarians (for instance) into a single book...
