Disecting "Caught Between the Planes"

|

Not too long ago, I downloaded Evil1's CBP RPG. For a while, I was annotating the PDF (one of the few benefits of actually using the Adobe program rather than using a 3rd party program)to send back. However, since one of our new members started a new trend in reviews, I figured I should share with everyone.

As with any other review from my collection, this is based on a read through as opposed to actual play. I lack players interested in trying a new game every week.

Overall, I think its a good idea, and the game would be fun to try. There are some questions about the various abilities and attributes. The layout is in dire need of redesign. My most pressing concern, however, is with the professionalism of the document.

Days of Plunder by Cutlass Arr-dvark

|

Well, I've been rather ill for the past few days (no relation to the fact I turned 24 the 13th, just a bad cold) so I haven't gotten much done on the games.

That changes today. I now present you a one page pirate war game.

Sputnik Lost

|

Its been a while since I submitted anything. Not sure why I'm in such a rut, I've got plenty of outlines, and half typed rules.

Well, at least something has surface. A one page game based on the idea of a failed Soviet moonshot. Its a pseudo-historical document, a declassified radio transcript from the Zond program. The Zond, LK-3, and N-1 Rocket are all real, though the latter blew up every time it was launched, scrubbing any chance of a landing.

I think the game has a lot of atmosphere (bad pun, I know) but I'm not sure how well it might play. A real list of whats in a lunar module is hard to find, and the game leaves off on a cliff hanger. Does the lay out work and can you follow the directions all right? Any suggestions for what to put on the back? (Its all 10 point font, .5 inch margins)

24 hour Spy Game

Written for the Modus Operandi Competition, it takes place just before World War One, on the planet Saturn. The Jewish immigrants to the floating cities of the gas giant are well aware that they are caught between the titians of the age, with nothing to defend themselves. Should war come to the rings, the powers will be quick to seize their cities and attack their shipping for strategic advantage. Thus an elite group known as the "Ghost of Shabbat" has been formed to sabotage the war efforts of everyone to prevent the outbreak of hostilities.

The Naval buildup before WWI was quite similar to the balancing act of MAD during the cold war.

Books for your reading needs

I just ran across this Arthurs Classic Novels and it it would be criminal not to tell everyone else here about it.

City State Encyclopedia

|

OK, my next project (aside from Game-Chef which starts this weekend) post more information about the city states and what goes on in the zone itself.

However, I'm a bit torn on how to organize this segment. One way I've considered is to name a state, and then give the information about it. The other is to give categories and tell how the city fits within.

Ie, should there be one page dedicated to military forces, with an overview and mentions of each city state, or should each city state page have a section about its military.

One thing I want to avoid is hyper-links, since this would ideally be set up like a dead tree book. No sense is getting lazy about layout.

Current Project

|

Ok, at the moment, my project is a 12 page Cold Hard Truth Supplement that details:

  • The 8 types of reanimates (Description & Stats)

  • The Eekaidie Power Armor
  • Science behind the reanimates
  • Some of the rules corrections noted so far

With any luck it should be posted in the next 24-48 hours. However, this is raising some questions I haven't particularly though through, and I want to see what others think.

First of all, the way the plague spreads hasn't been established. We do know its linked to the symbiosis of a biological weapon and nanotechnology. The Nano only functions for 14-18 months, though it is not eliminated from the body for 5-10 years. (Its designed that way - if it was less benign, the immune system would react, and it would cause organ rejection symptoms.) So does this mean that all people who die become reanimates, just those infected in a certain time frame, those bitten, etc. I was kind of thinking that the reanimates would slowly disappear as unlike most zombies, their numbers aren't being replenished quickly - and leave some hope of rebuilding. Or would the more bleak outlook of standard zombie fare be better?

Exozenographer Journal Entry 1

I'm floating in micro-gravity, as the ship swings past a foreign star on an orbit taking us to a planet untouched by mankind. Somewhere out there in the sea of darkness and diamonds is the rest of humanity. Still fighting and f----ing as if nothing has changed. We have not left the solar system because of racial maturity opens new doors. Rather, the cradle burns around us, rotting away from the effects of an alien machine.

Tzu Suit Riot

|

A little preview of a project I'm considering. (Aside from D&B, Gangland, Game Logic, CLICK/MMORPG...)

1.The Art of Gaming is of vital importance to the group.

2.It is a mater of enjoyment of ennui, a road to either

friendship or antagonism.

3.The Art of Gaming is of five constant factors

4.There are 1) Social Contract, 2) Timing, 3) Location, 4) The GM, and 5) game rules.

The Next Step

|

If I've counted right, there are 13 "Dead and Back" story pages on this site, not counting what is posted in the draft PDFs. Talking with a friend the other day, they said this was a rather large collection of free work, and perhaps I should go ahead and try to publish this as its own collection of stories - with or without the actual game.
