1) The number I provided was in regard to Momentum Boost. The farthest possible to move with a Momentum Boost is 12 (Ace 14 - 2, highest and lowest cards).
2) Unless you use a Fighter Card with a move effect, yes, you must Momentum Boost in order to move any spaces. MACE wasn't always this way, but it worked a charm when playtested and so it stuck (there used to be a Move Action as well).
3) The above statement was true.
4) The whole difference in card values only applies when Momentum Boosting. If you used a Ace - 14 with Leap Attack, you would move 14 hexes.
5) You can perform the move gained from Leap Attack before dealing Damage. You can Momentum Boost the same Turn too.
6) You would move 1 space, as the difference between 3 and 2 is 1.
7) You can move in any direction you choose. This is important for when you want to move around an opponent outside their Reach.
8) 8 way movement with squares is fine (including diagonals), it just modifies play slightly. For example, it is now possible to pin an opponent against a wall by moving right up on them, as they cannot move through your Reach. The only way to escape is to either knock you back or Dodge an attack of yours and move out of the way.
9) Thanks for your questions, it is helping me define how the game plays and work out how to word it better.
