Before making a game, consider this.

Before coming up with a game, remember this... BRAINSTORM. A game wont be good without a good idea. Think about your game in great detail before actually creating it. I've played a few games out there that I stopped playing after a few minutes. They were either unoriginal, or had a stupid idea. Think about what the player wants. Consider every idea.
A name. A good game needs a good name. Without a good name, a game won't show up. If people think that a name is stupid, they wont try it. It could be the best game ever, but it would be very difficult for it to get known. Think of some creative title that will draw the gamer in.
It must be appealing to the player. Don't just plug in a few settings and put it on the web. Put time into it. Pay attention to what you are doing, how it will affect game play. And most of all, what the player will think of it.
I have never made a decent game because I'm too lazy to put the time into it. But the things I mentioned above are just a few things to know before making a game. It's mainly common sense, but it can be important.
