Musing

If I made Nevercast into a video game, it wouldn't be action-oriented, although the short bursts of action would be intense and visceral. It would focus predominantly on the development of a character.
You would play as the Des Xiac woman Indra, Meh Kada's protege, from her teenage years to early thirties. Instead of solving people's problems, the game will revolve around the harsh and insane training regimen that Meh Kada subjects her to. She will learn the high arts and philosophies of the Old Masters, and will suffer frequent beatings and verbal abuse at the hands of Meh Kada, more so should she perform to sub-par standards. It's possible to die during training. As the player, you will be required to time your learned techniques perfectly and with strategy as you spar with Meh Kada, smash through stone, free-run, shoot guns, get shot, ride a power cycle, duel students from other schools, break into places, stalk people, role-play personalities in social settings, and pick fights with dangerous Outworlders on the streets.
When Indra completes her training to Meh Kada's standards, the player will use every learned skill at their disposal during Indra's recon mission through the unforgiving Vanaq Ir region. During this time, Indra must not compromise her external identity as a diplomat by revealing her identity as the saboteur, "The Fox". This will also be your opportunity to drink, fuck, and fight.
After the war ends, you will take on your second mission as lead operative of the Veil. Your mission will be to return to Vanaq Ir and either persuade the Cult of the Star to engage in trade talks with Dezonoc or coerce them. As leader of your team, you must decide carefully on what tasks to assign each operative, based upon their particular strengths, or you can undertake any given task yourself if you are particularly effective at it.
Your third mission is pretty straightforward: kill the leader of the Cult of the Star, Kanu Gon Te Ursus. The only problem is that Indra may have developed an infatuation for him during her earlier missions.
When the Veil is revealed to Xiam Archaeon by Urs Prime intelligence, Meh Kada is exiled and Indra is at Archaeon's mercy. Archaeon decides to take on the damaged woman as his student and teaches her the ways of softness, wisdom, and compassion. Indra's last mission is to master this art and embark on her medicine walk. When she returns, she finds out Archaeon has died of a stroke, sitting full armor in the lotus position. Afterwards, it is revealed to her that Archaeon has made her as his successor, and that it is his desire that she fulfill his dreams of a sovereign, prosperous, and reunified Des Xiac nation.
