24-Hour RPG? How about 6-Minute RPG?

I found this great discussion page while googling for info about something, in which the author challenged others on the site to write rules for an original role-playing game in 365 seconds (six minutes, five seconds, in other words). Although it was half in jest, several comments were posted containing entire games, which had all been written within that amount of time.

You can find it here (warning: language).

I tried, but failed. I've gotta say, I went into that thinking six minutes was a much longer amount of time then it really is. If any of you RPG wizards are feeling up to the challenge, then break out the kitchen timer and give it a go! Don't forget to post your results here on the lab, or right on this page in the comments!

One-Click Solar System

One Click Solar System

So, I got tired of the literally hundreds of rolls involved in randomly generating a solar system for sandbox-style sci-fi games, so I decided I would automate the process and make a spreadsheet to do the work for me. The spreadsheet is based on Larry Moore's Star System Generation document and determines details about every planet in the solar system with a single click.

Summer 2008 RPG Challenge

Interested in trying to design an RPG in 10 days, with a number of constraints set by participants? This is a small, supportive group. Should be fun. Not so much a contest as a collaborative effort to push each other to excel.

For those of us who want to look good.

Open Office is a free desktop publishing suite. It is capable of everything MS word is, sometimes even preforming better. The program will also convert documents into PDF files.

Campaign Maps

Check it out. I found a rough map of the entire world of Emergence. Here you go.

80,000,000 star systems? If I recall correctly, 80% of all stars are red dwarves. And 75% of all star systems are binary, but that doesn't mean they don't have planets. Most star systems have planets. Very few habitable planets, but then logovores wold probably be more interested in asteroids and gas giants anyway (better access to resources and hydrogen fuel for fusion power). A planet where you could build an ecosystem would just be icing on the cake.
