What can the reason of playing an RPG be? Is it because of the story that we can connect to? Or is it for the fun of beating the bloody hell out of monsters, gaining EXP, Weapons, Armor, and all what not to kill even more monsters for 12 hours.
This is the questions and I want YOU to give the answer.

To bodly go where no man has gone before...
I like to play for the same reason I like Science Fiction - its new worlds and an interesting "what if?" Each of our lives might be interesting in its own right, but its still doubtful you own a star-ship or AI.
There is certainly a reward of discovery, and the sense of achievement in passing the challenge the GM throws at you. So to is there joy in the unexpected twists of the story when the characters are sentient players ruled by dice rolls rather than pre-plotted actors.
Furthermore, its one of the cheapest hobbies you can be involved in. $40 can get me a set of dice and a core book which will entertain me and several friends for weeks or months. That is cheaper than a thirty hour long video game, a two hour movie and popcorn, or a blister of figures for Warhammer 40K.
And let us not forget, its something done with a close circle of friends.
There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.
