OS X

If you're using OS X, then PDF is a Mac-native format. All you have to do is print to a PDF file rather than to a printer, and you get a nice PDF file. All programs that run under OS X will do it (another reason for my switch to a MacBook) as the feature is part of the OS X system.
If you don't have OS X, there are some sites out there that may have freebie PDF generators. Say, and I'll have a look.

Some Options
This Page is a list of free PDF programs and services. I have to admit, I overlooked the Mac element when compiling the list - though I'm sure that most if not all of the methods listed have resources for the non-PC user.
There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.
