to those I offended

|

Well it was bound to happen, when different points of view mesh some times you offend. It seems I did so. I had no intent to be offensive, just want some point of view from any who have use the sites I was looking at. Be that as it may I can only conclude from the small on-pour of "WTF is wrong with you"s that I was asking something wrong. While I will not be stopping in my attempts at writing C.O.R.P.S. as well as posting it here, I can not but feel hesitant in asking anymore questions.

thank you for your time.

...

We're here to critisize and evaluate other peoples work and decisions. not to hold your hand. afterall the internet is full of people not supportive of somebodys decisions.

You must not be that mature if you think we're blessed by you being here. While i never did see your game, i do not question how well it is written or if it is bad or good untill i look at it.

I was merely saying its probably not a good idea to publish your first works. Buck up and don't take critisizm the wrong way. Nobody here is trying to offend you, we all make comments on eachothers work and we all have our own veiws.

I realize at times it takes me awhile to warm up to new members; usually some noob posts 1 or 2 times, a completly worthless blog or gums up another persons book.

oy

its more to do with the fact that the question was ignored for the most part in favor of shooting down the idea.

if some one asked a question about the balance of power in a super hero game and gets mostly "there are no good super hero games". No matter the fact its an opinion (valid and critical) they're going to get offended..... if the idea of publishing was so bad... IGNOR ME. No replies is the same as saying this is a bad idea, and far less insulting

you're all entitled to your opinion about publishing. My problem was I was asking about the sites? No matter if it was dumb of me to think about it.

Whatever

Meh, the fact of the matter is that not many of us know the answer to the question of where or why we would market our games.

While your good at saying "ignore me"; its not like we care. its a "forum"; your not susposed to ignore forum posts.

I look at everything that comes through here, as do many of the other regulers. So calm down and stop complaining about being given advice you asked for by posting on this site.

Verry Sorry

Somehow I missed that context. I've had an argument with someone else that couldn't take criticism, and thought the problem was something else. You're handling it a lot better than he did.

I don't know much about any of the various PoD services, so I'd suggest you look up topics like "indie distribution" and "Print on Demand" in Wikipedia to find links and focus your search.

So far as I know, Lulu is a kind of Amazon for self-publishing that can make books, and only books, available in both electronic and dead tree formats. Cafe Press seems more oriented as a general market for knick-knacks with your logo and I don't know if they actually make your volumes, or just put them up for sale with the coffee mugs.

I am aware of another site, called Indie Press Revolution that may in fact be what you are looking for.

Unfortunately, I am too caught up in the writing editing, and preparation to really look froward to a publisher, even if that is what I intend to do. I congratulate you on the foresight, and wish you luck.

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.

The Appraoch

Role Playing Games are the epitome of "if its worth doing, its worth doing right". (Albeit there are many different opinions of what right means, that is a discussion for another time.)

RPG design is surprisingly multi-disciplinary, and says a lot about its creators. Manipulating probability through the use of pools, mods, or other means rolls shows some understanding of math, the presentation of rules in an interesting and understandable manner is technical writing, while visual arts comes to play with graphics and header layout. Presenting a coherent world requires both creativity for detail, and logic for consistency. There is some philosophical element to what type of emphasis you place on how the game is played (GNS theory) and your familiarity with the genre is displayed by the way you emulate its conventions.

Thus, so long as you're not on a tight schedules, its to your advantage to hold off rushing to the printer.

All points considered, this has been a pretty good, egalitarian, community. Comments are best taken as an attempt to be helpful rather than an insult.
