Finding Outside Playtesters

|

It's a little early as I need to finalize some of the chunky bits and get some of the basic setting information out of my head.

However, I was wondering how most people go about finding play testers for your systems that aren't part of your regular group. Or if you bothered...

I think it would be valuable to have the feedback of a GM that wasn't the game designer :)

You kind of luck out

Its hard to get people to playtest a game (just ask Evil1), but usually someone plays it and puts what they think on this site. I have had this once or twice, while ErrinF has had a lot of comments regarding his solo games.

The best you can do is hope and wait :)

Low blow, you austrailian

Low blow, you austrailian ponce :P

Sadly; yes it is a hard thing to get playtesting done online.

When i get a game pretty done, i send it to my freind anne and bug her untill she reads it and tells me if it sucks or not.

I should tell the truth

I almost forgot that you did do a good playtest, of which I have saved the txt of what occured. You posted it (I cannot remember where now), but it was a fun read. So, I guess I should say that you have had more success than most.

Well

I thought you were referring to getting the people to APPEAR. the playtest went smoothly and fairly.

Lennon apparently is dead. and my internet isint on in my front room so i can;t use my yahoo messenger from the comfort of my room.

Get a friend to do it

A free copy of you does not come with each download or book. Thus its quite necessary to have test of the readability and organization of the book where the author is not present. After all, if you lead them through it, then you won't see where the weaknesses in explanation are. It can be quite frustrating to watch others struggle with your work.

I'd volunteer, but at the moment most of my RPG group is unavailable, so I'd need to find new friends before I could even suggest a new game. (One is driving semis, and another is studying AI & Neural Networks. I used to have interesting friends...) At best, I can offer some technical editing for layout.

While almost all of my documents include an author's note asking for feedback and listing my E-mail, generally no one has taken the time to comment through that channel. (I have gotten a few nice compliments, but no real suggestions) As such, you probably need to more actively solicit for testers on forums, work groups, or at game clubs.

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.
