For those of us who want to look good.

Open Office is a free desktop publishing suite. It is capable of everything MS word is, sometimes even preforming better. The program will also convert documents into PDF files.

A Long List of PDF Programs & Services

Let me start off by saying that Open Office, mentioned above, is one of the few applications I found that doesn't insert any sort of watermark or limit you to a trial period. I'm not affiliated with the producers of that program or any of these others, but I will recommend that one first. Aside from OO, I have tested none of these, and can only report what their website says.

PDF4U
Tags documents "PDF Creator - PDF4Free v2.0" but otherwise claims no strings attached. It acts as a new print driver, allowing you chose it in the standard print menu.

PDFOnline
Submit a file of up to 2MB and it will e-mail you the converted document.

Cute PDF
Also claims A)no watermarks, and B)works as a print driver. (as pdf4u)

FPDF
Converts directly from PHP for those of you too tech savvy to use a word processor when typing.

PDFCreator
Not a very original name, but its from SourceForge and seems to have good support (list of bugs etc.)

PDF995
Brings up a sponsor page in your web-browser, but also claims to have quite a few features. Actually three programs, the first converts to PDF, while the others let you merge documents or add signatures.

PrimoPDF
Claims to be free and no limits, adds, or watermarks.

Planet PDF
Apparently, a site for addressing all your Portable Document Format (yes, PDF is an acronym) needs, from a small library of public domain books to searching for any of the options I've missed in this list.

Foxit Reader
A small program that lets you read PDF files, in case you don't already have one. No relation to Fire Fox though.

Speaking of which, there is a Plug-in that lets you view PDFs as html or just download them rather than trying to load one in the browser and choking your computer.

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.

PDF Online

My experience with PDF Online is that it converts ' into ? .
**The problem is if you convert to pdf from msword doc. To remedy the problem convert to rtf, first.

Other than that it works fine.

Open Office 5.1

Just a word of warning - I found that Open Office 5.1 had some compatibility problems with XP. If you are are going to use Open Office, try and get one of the later versions.
