RPG Laboratory

First Day

I was Wondering as (currently posting this message on a 7 minute old account) a new RPer if anyone would tell me quickly how everyone here does everything, for example what my book entries are for, so I can get used to it.

Thanks to anyone who helps out

A day in the lab

RPG laboratory is a place to discuss concepts of storytelling and the mechanics of Table Top (ie PnP - Pencil and Paper) Role Playing Games. Our informal standard is that a normal blog is for quick or timely discussions, while the books are permanent structures within the site that lets one organize materials and conduct long term projects.

I would be more than happy to discuss the dice mechanics (or random number strings as the case may be for computers), story elements, and game balance with you. However, programing, animation, and artificial intelligence are completely outside our scope of expertise... perhaps a site like On RPG would be a better place to start a search for CRPG work.

There is a fine line between hobby and obsession. I seem to have lost sight of it some time ago.

Cool

Very cool so this is more of like a Heroscape or Dungeons and Dragons design forum, so you can get help designing characters and making a backstory of the next top game.
I really think that is terrific, maybe I should put away my computer game desinging for a little bit and approach this world.

If you could help me out a bit in how to connect my notes and tags to my posts I'd be really happy thanks a ton.

Learning by trial

Below the text entry box, and next to the preview comment button is a link for info about how to use html to format your posts. (Its much like the old "Word Star" program back before text editors were WYSWIG...) Links are of course possible - but in books I believe the order of pages is somewhat automatic - however you can have sub-pages and subs to those more or less add-infinitum. (Someone has actually made a branching choose-your-own-adventure book on this site... ErrinF's Adventuria)

At some point we had a PDF instruction manual... but I never recall as to where it is.

When making book pages there should be a drop down menu to chose which page it links to (is it the main page every thing connects to, a page indexed to that, or a sub page of one of those etc.) Generally just look about and experiment with the interface. So long as you don't start adding pages to other people's books its ok to organize as you wish.

Similarly, there are drop down menus when creating new blog pages that let you classify the post.

I'm a bit tired at the moment... Did I answer what you meant to ask, or just go off on a tangent? (We've got lab rats from across the US, UK, Australia, and a few other places... as for me, its 12:30 am)

Yes Thank You

Wow, I clicked the drop down classification menu and saw this pingu thing and several other names for I'm assuming other people's books. So, now that I've created the first page in Valor Quest, I'm assuming I can look for that title on the drop down to write my work?

Thanks a ton and sorry to keep you up.
