Victoriana
Victoriana.
Ideas for a game I shall be creating, this is nowhere complete.
Setting: Victoriana is in a time when steam energy was being developed and experimented with, the very edge of the industrial revolution. In this world there are two types of people, those who attempt to further the knowledge of science and technology and those who utilize the arcane powers of Magika. The word itself is populated by many races including elves, dwarves and gnomes with half breeds of each (except maybe dwarves, my imagination can go that far but doesn’t necessarily want to!)
System: I intend to use the SPECIAL system (as seen in Fallout) keeping the same attributes except for luck which will be replaced by Legacy. This system uses D%.
Thus the stats are: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Legacy. These are all self explanatory except for Legacy. Legacy is the level at which your character is imbued by the Magika and thus how easily they can influence it, secondly Legacy incorporates the role of luck and is thus used for Critical Chance and gambling rolls.
From these seven stats attributes (AC, Energy, Magika, Skill Rate, Critical Chances, Karma and resistances.) and skills are derived. Skills work on a basis of finding the average of two stats and multiplying by either 2, 3 or 4 depending on how easy that skill is to learn.
Character Creation: Players will roll 7D10 and spread the numbers around so that each stat is represented by one of the scores, a player may reroll if his total score (before racial modifiers) is less than 35. After this players will alter the stats in accordance with their racial modifiers, if they have any.
Characters will next choose three skills to be their TAG skills. These skills are greatly improved in comparison to others (+20%) and also level up quicker than others. For ease of explanation these would be the equivalent of class skills.
Attributes are worked out based on your stats ad or racial changes.
Finally players pick a two perks for their characters (read as feats) or may take one perk and two spells if they intend to be a spell caster.
Races: I am sticking to the traditional, although maybe dull, races of Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome and Orc but will be including half breeds of every combination (except maybe Gnome/Orc which although I have the imagination to envision such a thing I don’t particularly want to.)
I will start writing this out if full, including combat system and equipment at the weekend. I ask that anyone who is good at coming up with balanced spells (I already have the system in mind) contact me as I will need help and if anyone has any idea of the currency and its worth in the Victorian times I will be thrilled to know, if not its back to Gold coins for the characters.
