The Left 4 Dead RPG

After playing this great zombie game from Valve, we've decided to create an RPG based off it. We used the SPECIAL system from Fallout and crafted it for a horror survival RPG with zombies.

This is the first complete production from Viking Games and we hope you all enjoy.

Character templates and a character sheet coming soon!

I'd like to send out a thank you to the people at the Left 4 Dead wiki because we would not have been able to produce such a great looking manual without their resources.

Hey, is this still around?

Hey, is this still around? I wanted to download the RPG and give it a try, but I cannot. Please help if possible.

If you have it already, for example, you can email it to me if possible. I'm at nbkbruce@yahoo.com if you can, and I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'd really like to check

I'd really like to check this out too, but the link till leads to the main page. My address is rogerrrupe@googlemail.com

Don't worry

I messaged him; he should have it back up in a few days.

Also, I must say that when I did see it; it was in a very good; playable condition using improvised SPECIAL rules. I gave him a more official SPECIAL system (The Fallout PnP) so by now it should be updated and even more playable. Though I don't work with him I usually talk with most of the lab people time to time.

Great work!

At first when i saw it; i thought "Oh no, a horrible fan rpg"

Then i actually started reading it. Though it can use more work, you have a very great rpg on your hands so far; using SPECIAL really does do L4D justice. You may want to work on rules and mechanics, add more perks. The zombie expert perk is fairly overpowered though at such a low level; +50% damage would probably be a game breaker.

Sanity points and Ammo points are a great twist; and it would be possible to run some very good campaigns with a group using these rules.

Recently popular opinion of zombies has changed. Scientifically the zombie plague makes sense to be a virus as that's the only non magical possibility we can figure. And to be honest, running zombies are scarier ^_^

You may want to test out rolling with special and make sure the health values you wrote down will work. too low and boss zombies will be useless except tanks, and too high will make them the kiss of death and probably never used. In L4D common zombies go down in 2-3 pistol shots which takes 1-3 seconds so you may want to bump them down to 6 or 7 hp.

Also, since you do not own the rights to SPECIAL or L4D you can't copyright it because its stealing

no it is not stealing, because they are copyrighted only 4 videogames,if not, everybody using strenght, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility
and luck is stealing?and l4d is a generic zombie game,
anyway, can somebody post here the rules because for some unknown problem i don't see them
and,i don't think that charisma will be somehow useful(charm zombies??).

thanks

truthfully if i had been left to my own devices and made this game myself, it wouldnt have gone over so well. lol. but with the help of judgmentsrpg, Viking Games has successfully completed a game, albeit a rough version. and its really rough and like u said, evil, it does need some polishing. if you notice i seem to have forgotten to list how much XP is needed to level up and i would like to add more perks. Fallout 3 is an amazing game and is what inspired me to use the SPECIAL system. I figured u need to have some form of desperation but keeping track of individual bullets is a hassle so we incorporated Ammo Points. We wanted to focus on the psychological side of a zombie outbreak, everyones on edge you know, and forcing players to keep track of two separate health bars does add to the desperation.

so thanks for the input Evil, you're opinion comes highly recommended and we'll take what you advised (such as lowering Common Infected's health to 6 or 7) into consideration. It really does make sense.

"So I say to the guy, 'How you going to get the tank down to the planet?' And he goes, 'I'll just put it on the ship.' And I go, 'If you've got a ship that can carry a tank, why not just put guns on the ship and use it instead?'" -Caboose

Suggestions

I bought teh game yesterday. and I can tell you that there plenty you can do to make the game more specific to L4D. Also it seems your file has been removed in some way or damaged as now clicking the pdf sends yo uto the rpglab main page so reupload

-sight/sound rules: Sight and sound are very important in a game of L4D. I suggest rules for spotting and hearing special infected. Requiring a survivor to wave his flashlight around dark places if he wants to spot things. (Ex: As GM i tell my players "You all hear a soft whimpering and a coughing wheeze, but its too dark to see anything. one of my survivors exclaims "I will wave my light around, try and find the smoker" I roll for light check and the survivor startles the witch by accident)Would also be helpful for areas with corn fields as I noticed its possible to run right into a enemy and not see it until your touching it.

-Rules for the infected: You mentioned what they are and do but not really WHAT they do. Players should know and fear the witches trademark music and crying or piss themselves when they see a tank.

-Sample campaigns and levels: Give a few samples for players. The Directer should have some surprises for the players and ideas for some fun.

charisma?

charisma?

good,anakin,good...

now it works, for everyone who haven't ,give it a try at least to know how an rpg is made, but,do you REALLY need charisma?and for what?leadersip isn't a big thing because all the team members are PCs

charisma suggestion then serious digression

possibly there could be the inclusion of fear effects. such as when the witch goes awol and someone is taken down, perhaps they could suffer a negative untils someone rps a pep talk ans makes a charisma roll.

As my bro doesn't have the internet we can't play L4D normally (we used to rp for extra kicks, my favourite was a agoraphobic/claustraphobic duo. If weve played with any of you guys, I'm deeply sorry) so I might suggest this for our weekly not entirely serious session (not to be confused with the fortnightly serious rp session.)

I'll give any feedback and houseruled circumstances after the game.

Oh just had a idea, if you haven't got it, pick up the zombies boardgame, the rules for tiles and cards could be modded to simulate an AI director (if say you've only got a group of four one week.)

@look how cute is that human!lets not eat him first!@

from wikipedia
@The word charisma (Greek "kharisma," meaning "gift," "of/from/favored by God the divine") refers to a trait found in persons whose personalities are characterized by a personal charm and magnetism@

i do not think that being attractive, charming, and having a "personal magnetism",ever helped against a bunch of mindless,brain-eating monsters.
i did not get what you just said about the witch, but i do think that a witch(as in-game zombie) will never care about how cute, beatiful, attractive and good looking you are,
for interactions between the team members,it does not help too,i mean, why for?,everybody is a pc.

Oh god I thought maybe you'd

Oh god I thought maybe you'd actually taken a step forward and began reading peoples posts, but I hoped too much.

If you include things like morale and keeping the group together, Charisma is an incredibly important stat. Yes I'm not saying a player should try to talk the witch out of ripping his friend apart, I'm saying that after being hit by special infected characters will be shaken if not worse, and a character with charisma can act to help relieve this status earlier. Charisma can also be used to inspire other characters 'You can do it Francis, it's only another 100m, we can make it to the copter.'

Also do you not use social stats in RPG when dealing with other player characters? Unless everyone in your party has exactly the same goals, ways of doing things and already knows each others secrets I think there is plenty of room for social traits.

why so much hate?

if you 'd explained that better maybe i'd get it
because what you said was:
"possibly there could be the inclusion of fear effects. such as when the witch goes awol and someone is taken down, perhaps they could suffer a negative untils someone rps a pep talk ans makes a charisma roll."
i am not very good with terms like rps,pep talk, going awol
but if it meant
" after being hit by special infected characters will be shaken if not worse, and a character with charisma can act to help relieve this status earlier. Charisma can also be used to inspire other characters 'You can do it Francis, it's only another 100m, we can make it to the copter.'"
i totally agree with it.there's no need of being so mean

I assume your on a computer?

I assume your on a computer? If I don't understand what someone has said because I don't know a word, I look it up on old mister internets.

I do admit I wrote 'ans' instead of 'and' as well as the fact that sometimes I could do with being a bit clearer. Point duly noted.

i sure am.

i AM on a computer, and so are you,i presume,if not,i am really pleased of making contact with some superior being that does not need internet, or a cyberpunk character.
roleplaying-jokes apart, there is no explation on google for awol,or pep talk.
